Setting My Thermostat

How do I learn more about setting for my Thermostat?

Just like the homeowners we serve, we at Air-Ref believe in staying cool and comfortable indoors while also conserving energy. That is why it’s important to ask about setting my thermostat. After all why compromise on comfort or energy savings when you have both with an energy efficient air conditioning system?

Homeowners often ask us what thermostat setting is best for staying comfortable while keeping energy costs down. We wanted to take a moment to share some surprising facts about how the right settings — and the right thermostat — can help you lower your cooling bills. We offer a wide variety of Carrier Thermostats.

How to Save Energy with Thermostat Settings

While of course there is no “one size fits all” thermostat setting for every homeowner here in Southern Florida, there are smart ways you can use your thermostat to help cut down on cooling costs. Here are a few tips to keep in mind.

Save Energy with a Higher Setting In general, the higher the temperature you set your thermostat to, the less your AC system will run. And the less your AC system runs, the more money you’ll save on your utility bills. Of course, this doesn’t mean you should set your thermostat 80°F just to save money. Our recommendation: Set your thermostat to the highest temperature you feel comfortable with. (For many local homeowners, that’s about 76°F to 78°F.)

Stay Cool with Ceiling Fan Did you know that running a ceiling fan can create the illusion that a room is 4 degrees cooler than it really is? This means that as long as you’re running the ceiling fan in a particular room, you can increase the average temperature in your home by 4 degrees. Keep in mind, however, that ceiling fans only make a room feel cooler — so you’re wasting energy if you’re running a ceiling fan in a room that you’re not using!

Turn Up the Thermostat When You’re Away Why keep your home at the same temperature all day when you’re gone from 8am to 6pm? By turning the thermostat up 10 to 15 degrees from its normal setting for eight hours a day, you can save up to 10% on your energy bills.

Upgrade Your Thermostat for Greater Energy Savings

Still using a conventional, non-programmable thermostat to control standard room temperature? Rather than turning the thermostat up and down every time you leave and come home, we recommend upgrading to a programmable thermostat. With a programmable thermostat, you can fine-tune your thermostat settings for maximum energy savings. You can even control thermostat settings using your mobile device from anywhere in the world when you choose a smart thermostat like the iComfort WiFi thermostat.
